Bond Oversight Committee at the October 28, 2024 meeting

Aldine ISD is making district improvements as work is unfolding resulting from the district’s $1.8 billion bond voters approved in November 2023. A number of bond projects were given the green light to move forward, as indicated at the recent Bond Oversight Committee meeting.

Aldine ISD Board of Trustees approved construction, maintenance, and technology projects at the end of the 2023-24 school year. The district’s larger projects – Aldine Middle School, Carver High School, and the new Education and Performing Arts Center – are also moving forward following the approval of architectural firms for each project. The three larger projects are now in the program development phase.

For the rebuild of Aldine Middle School, Board of Trustees approved MWA Architect. The firm has worked with the district in the past with notable projects such as Blanson CTE, the Aldine Education Center, and Nimitz Ninth Grade. For Carver High School, the board voted to approve Stantec, who was the architect assigned to the new Thorne Stadium. Lastly, the new Education and Performing Arts Center will be designed by PBK Architects. PBK is no stranger to working with K-12 Education. The firm has many projects under its belt in the Greater Houston area, including the rebuilding of Bellaire High School in HISD, Cy-Fair ISD’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, and the Alief Center for Advanced Careers.

“I’m so excited for the work that will be taking place throughout our district and the impact it will have on our Aldine community.” Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney said. “I look forward to engaging the community to develop buildings that will serve students for generations to come.”

Nine firms also submitted proposals for the Construction Manager Agent/ Program Management Services. Rice and Gardner Consultants Inc. was selected as the program manager services for deferred maintenance for the life of the 2023 bond and the board approved Turner and Townsend Heery, LLC as the program manager for the rebuilds and replacements for the life of the 2023 bond.

Other 2023 bond projects approved to move forward and work has started or has been initiated:

  • Prop A
    • Districtwide replacement of old and damaged coils for HVAC systems
    • Science labs and safety
    • Fencing
